Text to Speech
Listen to your text with customizable voice, speed, and pitch
How Text to Speech Works
This tool uses your browser's built-in SpeechSynthesis API to convert text into spoken words. Available voices depend on your operating system and browser. Chrome, Edge, and Safari typically offer the most voice options. All processing happens locally — no text is sent to any server.
Use Cases for Text to Speech
Text to speech is valuable for proofreading (hearing errors you might miss reading), accessibility (making content available to visually impaired users), language learning (hearing correct pronunciation), and multitasking (listening to articles while doing other tasks). It can also help with public speaking preparation.
Adjusting Voice Settings
Speed (rate) controls how fast the text is read — 1x is normal speed, 0.5x is half speed for careful listening, and 2x is double speed for quick scanning. Pitch changes the voice frequency — lower values sound deeper, higher values sound lighter. Experiment with different voices to find one that sounds natural for your language and content type.
